World Plumbing Day March 11
MESSAGE FROM WORLD PLUMBING COUNCIL
As many of you may have already learned, the World Plumbing Council has chosen to create World Plumbing Day, to be celebrated on 11 March each year. The inaugural event will take place in 2010 and will be formally announced at a press conference in Beijing, China.
This annual event has been established to help the general public better understand the vital role the plumbing industry plays in protecting public health and safety, the extent to which it helps limit mankind’s environmental footprint and other important work performed by contractors, inspectors, installers, engineers, manufacturers and academicians that is often taken for granted.
As a means of promoting World Plumbing Day worldwide, the WPC will provide its member organizations, as well as any other parties interested in promoting the globally important role of plumbing, with fact sheets and other promotional information to encourage these organizations to plan activities celebrating World Plumbing Day in their own countries. It is my pleasure to advise you that a special website will be operational from 1 January 2010 and will contain various items that we have developed to assist in the planning for World Plumbing Day 2010. The website can be found at www.worldplumbingday.org

GreenPlumbersUSA program establishes a collaborative relatonship between water distributors, plumbing contractors and end-users
When one thinks of a “dam,†the image of a concrete barrier holding back billions of gallons of water immediately comes to mind. Webster’s dictionary has a much simpler definition. It defines the word “dam†as “any barrier that checks the flow of a stream.â€
In the United States, streams of water flow through houses every day. Allowing these streams to go unmonitored is a careless waste of one of our most precious resources. GreenPlumbersUSA, the innovative water and energy conservation program, has announced a long-term strategy to provide consumers with the knowledge, incentives, and tools they need to monitor and reduce their daily water usage, and to ultimately become champions of conservation for both the U.S. and the world.

Wastewater Warrior: An Interview with GreenPlumbers USA Director Megan Lehtonen

Plumbers are incredibly skilled and knowledgeable already. We challenge them to look at their careers in a different way by extending their education to include training related to new technology and advanced conservation techniques. The five courses (32 hours total) include training on everything from solar hot water to how to conduct a detailed, 50-point water audit on homes and businesses. Plumbing companies that commit to training all of their technicians, and adhere to a code of ethics, can become Licensed GreenPlumbers. These companies are listed on our website by location, so consumers can have a conservation option when looking for a plumber.
