Unlicensed Out of State Contractors

Posted September 29th, 2008 by Craig Woolheater

Unlicensed contractors may not work in Texas unless they get a Texas license (plumbing, HVAC, electrical, etc). Bob Maxwell, Executive Director of the Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners, says that licensed contractors from other states can enter Texas and register as apprentices and work under the supervision of a Master Plumber, but they may not work as licensed plumbers under another state license. (The same is true for HVAC licensees, they may register in Texas as a certified technician and work under the supervision of an HVAC contractor.) We have received many questions on this related to hurricane reconstruction.
